LABOR DAY FUN
We had a few friends over for a Labor Day BBQ. Lexi and friends swam, Zachary got to have an impromptu Texas Hold Em Game, Ken BBQed and I got to enjoy some good friends and take a few pictures* (ok - I also got to prepare and clean up).
*Photo taking note. This seems pretty obvious - but the photographer needs to be patient and stand still. I took a ton of shots and only a few turned out. Lesson learned (I hope).
I guess this means summer is finally over... it is still over 100 degrees every day, so it is a bit confusing. I can hardly wait till Christmas break and there is no school for two whole weeks!

THE BASEBALL GAME
Every summer, Lexi "Reads Her Way To The Ballpark" with the local library's reading program. This year, she and Ken decided what game they were going to attend and then Ken was able to "upgrade" the tickets from one to four and get great seats through a friend of his at the Diamondbacks. Lexi invited her friend Kaytie and Kaytie's little sister Jordyn to join them at the game. The girls (and Ken) had a great time.

A Hard Day's Twitter
FROM KENWho says Twittering doesn't pay! I've made great relationships, both personal and business on Twitter, and as well as created some business for my company (blue 22 pr) and others. FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
Last Monday (8/17) was the first day of school. Zachary is off to high school, 9th grade and Lexi started 5th grade. The first week seemed to go well. Lexi likes her teacher and was lucky enough to have a few good friends in her class. Zachary has quite a load, plus early morning seminary. Zachary also started swimming directly after school last Monday. We think he has made the team, but will find out more details this week. We know they will both have outstanding years.

What a difference 2 hours makes - Lexi is half shade / half light

The first Kentucky Fried Chicken or The Big Lie
When I was growing up in Salt Lake there was Harman's Cafe (Kentucky Fried Chicken). Pete Harman was the first person to open a KFC. The Cafes were sit down service with an expanded KFC menu. When one of our friends wanted to do to lunch, someone suggested the first KFC. I thought this will be fun for the kids to see. When we pulled into the parking lot all I saw was an ordinary KFC. I started calling around, because I was sure I was in the wrong spot. Ken said - look it says this is the first KFC. Come to find out, the original building was demolished in 2004 and replaced with... you guessed it, a KFC that looks like every other KFC. They did have some memorabilia inside and a bronze statute of Colonel Sanders and Pete Harman and a buffet that was ok. Other than that, we could be at any KFC anywhere. What a sad disappointment and a child memory desecrated. Oh well - below is a picture of Zachary and Lexi with the bronzes.

The last night we were in Utah we stayed with Mike & Camille Neilson who live in Scottsdale in the winter. They had a beautiful home in the Mountains above Heber. They had a game room set up for their children and grandchildren that was out of this world.... Lexi and Ken both asked if Mike & Camille would adopt them. My favorite was the taiko drum game (think guitar hero with a taiko drum). Mike and Ken played ping pong for a couple hours until Ken nearly passed out from the elevation and dehydration. Did you know you have to drink more at higher elevations? Lexi rotated between the slot machine from the pachinko parlor in Japan, the pinball machine and the taiko drum game.

Zachary only had a couple days with us before he was off to EFY for a week. He and Lexi went down to Temple Square while Ken and I attended my niece's wedding inside the Temple. They had a nice time touring the visitor centers and then reluctantly posed for a couple photos while we were waiting for my niece.
The first full day in Utah we went to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple open house - it was lovely - but busy, so we didn't stay around to get pictures. We found a pizza place afterward and had a wonderful pizza.
Zachary was on the prowl looking for a wifi signal he could connect to - the movie theater looked promising - but he was thwarted by the password. He had to come back and eat pizza with us.
